MISSOULA – Sunday at the Run Like a Mother half marathon many people ran to honor their moms, grandmothers, and other caregivers.
Amber Riel also ran for herself. She was in a car accident in October of 2017. Riel was previously diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and sustained a traumatic brain injury in the accident.
She says that her physical therapist told her it wasn’t likely she would be able to complete a half marathon. But now that she has, she has her sights set on running a full marathon soon.
Riel says none of this would be possible without support from her mom.
“Happy Mother’s Day. Mom, I couldn’t do it without ya. She was along the race line cheering me on and she was at the finish line telling me I could do it.”
Riel and other race participants were excited to be able to celebrate their loved ones at the event.
