Investigation into Missoula fatal hit-and-run incident continues

MISSOULA - One person is dead after a Tuesday morning hit and run crash in Missoula.

Officers responded to the scene of an incident in the 3100 block of West Broadway at around 6:40 a.m. on Tuesday.

When officers arrived, they found a body of a 63-year-old man lying in the roadway and discovered the vehicle suspected to be responsible had left the scene.

Officers acted quickly to track down the vehicle involved.

“The vehicle that had left the scene was described to officers who located it nearby and the driver has been arrested,” Missoula Police Department spokesman Sgt. Travis Welsh said.

Sgt. Welsh added it took law enforcement 15 minutes to locate the vehicle -- described as a white Pontiac Grand AM -- west of where the crash occurred.

A section of West Broadway was closed until approximately 11:15 a.m. as authorities investigated at the scene.

Sgt. Welsh says MPD detectives are conducting an interview with the driver at the Missoula Police Department.

The names of the victim and the driver are not being released at this time.

One person is dead following an early morning hit-and-run incident involving a pedestrian in Missoula.

Missoula Police Department spokesman Sgt. Travis Welsh says the driver involved in the incident has been apprehended.

Law enforcement responded to the scene in the 3000 block West Broadway at around 6:30 a.m.

The westbound lanes are currently blocked near the intersection with Commerce Street.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area. There is now word on how long the road is expected to be closed.
