MISSOULA — Some students at a Missoula elementary school have received an early Christmas present.

Lowell Elementary School Principal Barbara Frank recently received an anonymous donation of $5,300, made in honor of Eileen Lake, to pay off all outstanding cafeteria balances at the school.

While the school district did shift away from the providing free breakfast and lunch to all students under the previous five-year Community Eligibility pilot program, no student is turned away from a lunch meal due to lack of money. Many Missoula schools also serve free breakfast in the classroom to all students.

Missoula County Public Schools encourages families who need support paying for meals at school to complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application form. This form can be completed at any time during the school year.

The District also encourages families who have experienced any change to the number of parents or children living in the household or whose income has dropped to complete the form because these changes often impact family’s ability to qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
