EAST MISSOULA — A new and free learning center meant to help some Missoula-area students learn distraction-free is ready for use.

The YMCA Free Learning Hub officially opened Monday at Mount Jumbo Elementary School in East Missoula.

The center will be open between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. for third through twelfth-grade students who attend Bonner School and Rattlesnake Elementary School.

Students have access to computers, Wi-Fi, and can receive distance support from Missoula YMCA staff members.

YMCA Senior Director of Youth Programs Nicole Martin says the learning lab gives students an opportunity to create their own space -- away from distractions while learning.

“This is kind of the idea of creating a space, if you’re in your home you have your kids who are doing school remotely, working remotely -- trying to find new desk spaces and things like this,” Martin explained. “So, this is really a place where a kid can have their own space to focus on learning.”

The Mount Jumbo Elementary School location will also provide free lunches courtesy of Missoula County Public Schools.
