The Missoula Police Department responded to a report of a family disturbance in the 2300 block of Kemp Street shortly after 2:30 p.m.

Patrol officers arrived, secured the area and established a containment area.

Initial information indicated a firearm was in the home and was related to a mental health issue.

MPD spokeswoman Whitney Bennett says the gun wasn't fired "or used during the commission of the crime."

However, because of the nature of the situation, the SWAT team was called to the scene.

A 28-year-old man communicated with SWAT and voluntarily surrendered without further incident.

The man was taken into custody and charged with misdemeanor Partner Family Member Assault, a news release states.

A shelter-in-place order was issued for the surrounding area shortly after 3 p.m. and was lifted once the situation was resolved.
