MISSOULA — The Missoula County Sheriff's Office recently added more school resource officers and is now hoping to get more equipment.
MCSO recently signed a contract with the Frenchtown School District where Frenchtown helped with funding to get a SRO specifically for their district. The agreement was approved at Wednesday's Missoula County Commissioners meeting.
The Sheriff's Office also asked for support in getting a crime scene investigation van during the meeting. Citing old equipment and increasing rates of violent crime, officers say now is the time to invest in public safety.
"With the increase in the complexity and seriousness of crimes, our need to do thorough crime scene investigations has gone up in the past years. We want to have the right equipment to serve the public in that way,” Captain Rob Taylor said.
The crime scene investigation van would provide better response to violent crime in rural areas, according to a letter of support by the Missoula County commissioners.
