MISSOULA — The Missoula Police Department is reminding people to stay safe with the holidays just right around the corner.

MPD is increasing patrols to crack down on drunk driving by partnering with the Montana Department of Transportation and the Montana Highway Patrol to cover the entire Missoula area.

Missoula Police Sergeant Greg Amundsen says the holidays can be especially dangerous because there's more parties, and worse roads.

"What I like to tell people is, if you're going to a bar or a house party or an office party, get dropped off. Or take any of the the forms of Uber, Lyft, a cab, any of those ways. Use that to get there, because then once you become impaired, you cannot make that bad choice because you don't have a vehicle there to drive."

Montana had one of the highest rates for drunk driving fatalities last year. You can report an impaired driver by calling 9-1-1.
