MISSOULA — AniMeals in Missoula is thanking the community for a recent outpouring of support.

The organization recently received more than 8,000 pounds of pet food and hundreds of dollars in donations.

The pet food shelter posted pictures of its bare shelves on social media last month, explaining that they could no longer receive donations from Walmart due to policy changes.

The post reached countries all over the world and donations came pouring in. Now AniMeals is saying thank you.

Executive Director Diane Denessen says cat food is their greatest need and this will help pet owners in need.

"The employees were so relieved that they didn't have to turn anybody away. It was very uplifting because we're so, the humans are so divided right now. It was uplifting for everybody to come together."

Denessen added that the shelter will now be able to feed animals for three to four months.
