MISSOULA — A trip to the Missoula Community Theater will feel more like you’ve stepped into a Dr. Seuss storybook.
Haley Alexa Court, who plays the role of Gertrude McFuzz in "Seussical the Musical", has years of theater under her belt and says this show is unlike any other.
“I just love how whimsical and how fun it is, the costumes and the colors. When you see our set it looks like you opened a Dr. Seuss book and you’re ready to read, but the story just kind of comes to life.”
Narrated by none other than the Cat in the Hat, the show follows the adventures of Horton the Elephant as he saves the town of Whoville and protects an abandoned egg, all the while encountering some of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters.
Guest director and choreographer Andy Meyers emphasized that the show is truly for everyone.
“Everyone knows the Cat in the Hat, and everyone knows the Grinch. They’re so iconic-the characters, and then the way the story’s woven together...I think makes for a great musical.”
While you’re sure to be dazzled by the vibrant costumes and catchy musical numbers, amid the flashy production lies a message sure to resonate with audience members young and old.
Matt Loerke, who plays Horton the Elephant in the production, described his character, "Horton’s heart is huge, and he cares about everyone and everything, and even if people don’t agree with him he still wants to help them out.”
He said the message of Seussical is perfect for the holiday season, adding, "no matter who is who and where is where, we need to take care of each other.”
By the end of the show, you might just feel as if your heart has grown three sizes.
Seussical the Musical runs until Dec. 22 with a slew of performances-both nights and matinees. You can find all those details here.
