MISSOULA — More than 2,000 cemeteries nationwide took part in the annual “Wreaths Across America” event over the weekend to honor our fallen veterans.
Each year, a new theme is chosen to help volunteers and supporters focus their messaging and outreach in their own communities.
This year, Wreaths Across America chose the theme, “Be an American Worth Fighting For.”
A socially distant crowd gathered at the Western Montana Veterans Cemetery on Saturday where that message was heard and felt by many.
Attendees distributed around 1,000 wreaths to each headstone, pausing for a moment of reflection.
Michelle Sage, one of the event attendees, has several family members resting in the Missoula cemetery.
Seeing all of the attendees paying tribute, she knew her loved ones would have been honored.
"They’d be very proud for us all to remember what they sacrificed for giving us the freedoms that we live for today," said Sage.
