A section of Glacier National Park's iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road will soon close for maintenance.
Park officials wrote on Facebook Saturday that Going-to-the-Sun Road is expected to close day and night from September 16-29.
The closure is for the west side of the road between Avalanche Creek and Logan Pass. Visitors can still access Logan Pass from the St. Mary entrance.
Pavement preservation crews have been at work across Glacier for most of the season. Their work on Going-to-the-Sun Road will not only close the scenic highway, but is expected to cause delays. Travelers are asked to plan accordingly.
Going-to-the-Sun Road opened in 1929 between West Glacier and Logan Pass. The Facebook post states nearly 14,000 vehicles made the journey to the top that first year when a gallon of gas cost 21 cents.
