WASHINGTON, DC – The US Department of Justice will grant more than $113 million to American Indian and Alaska Native communities to improve public safety, serve victims of crime, combat violence against women, and support youth programs.

Several Reservations in Montana will receive an estimated $1.4 million of the grant money.

The Blackfeet Tribe will be awarded about $800,000 which will be put toward violence against tribal women, juvenile healing, and wellness courts.

The Fort Belknap Indian Community will get over$ 270,000 and the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes will get over $320,000 for children’s justice efforts.

Grants were awarded to 133 American Indian tribes, Alaska Native villages, and other tribal designees.

The US Department of Justice is also in the process of allocating up to $133 million in a first-ever set-aside program to serve victims of crime in American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

Those grant recipients are set to be announced in the near future.
