Montana jobless rate at 3.6%

HELENA – Montana’s unemployment rate checked in at 3.6% for September, the lowest rate in Treasure State in over a decade.

Payroll employment posted a gain of 500 jobs in September, with 800 jobs gained in the private sector, according to numbers released by the Montana Department of Labor and Industry.

The U.S. unemployment rate declined to 3.7%.

Meanwhile, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased by 0.1% in September due to price increases in housing and shelter.

The lowest jobless rate in Montana sat at 1.7% in Fallon County for September while at the other end of the spectrum, the unemployment rate in Big Horn County was 8.1%.

Western Montana unemployment rates for September:

  • Missoula County: 2.8% (-0.3%)
  • Powell County: 3.2% (no change)
  • Lake County: 3.5% (-0.3%)
  • Ravalli County: 3.5% (-0.4%)
  • Flathead Indian Reservation: 3.7% (-0.3%)
  • Flathead County: 3.8% (-0.4%)
  • Granite County: 4.5% (-0.5%)
  • Sanders County: 4.6% (-0.8%)
  • Mineral County: 5.4% (-1.5%)
  • Lincoln County: 5.5.% (-0.8%)
