BILLINGS – Protesters gathered in Billings and other cities nationwide Thursday to support the Russia investigation into the Trump administration.

The “Nobody Is Above the Law Rally” comes a day after President Donald Trump fired Attorney Jeff Sessions and appointed Matthew Whitaker as acting attorney general.

Protesters say that Whitaker has a conflict of interest because of his past criticisms of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.

They argue Whitaker should recuse himself and hand the reins back to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who had been overseeing the investigation.

In Billings, a few dozen protesters gathered on the Yellowstone County Courthouse lawn about 5 p.m. Thursday.

Nine rallies were scheduled across Montana including in Kalispell, Missoula and Polson.
