BUTTE – Santa has to be proud of Butte because every Christmas, many in the town are willing to give.

“It’s very near and dear to my heart and I’m grateful to be a part of it,” said Erica Johnson of Action Inc.

This is the 28th year of the Mining City Christmas hosted by Action Inc., which is a program dedicated to making sure everyone has a merry Christmas.

“Our mission for the program is to make sure every child wakes up on Christmas morning with a gift under the tree and enjoys a holiday meal,” said Johnson.

Generous people select a needy family to sponsor this Christmas and make donations of Christmas presents. Other organizations donate items to make the season a little brighter for those in need.

“We partner with the food bank, they provide us with food baskets, we partner with Toys for Tots and they provide us with toys for some of the families. We have clothing that we shop for in our shopping area over here,” said Johnson.

Action Inc. helped 1,800 families with the program last year and it seems the number of needy families grows each year. That’s why they say the generosity of this town is greatly appreciated.

“We could not do this program without the generosity and outpouring of support from this wonderful community. Having this wonderful resource available to them to provide these items that might not otherwise be possible is a very humbling and magical experience to be part of,” she said.

People wishing to adopt a family have until December 18 and can do it at Action Inc. headquarters at 25 West Silver Street in Butte. Needy families have until December 14 to apply.
