BUTTE – Experts are warning that rivers need to take extra precautions when traveling on slick roadways during our extremely cold temperatures.
Breaking down or sliding off the roadway can be very dangerous if motorists are not prepared during extremely cold temperatures.
Experts say motorists should travel with blankets, warm clothing, food and water in case they end up being stranded in sub-zero temperatures.
Bill Gibson with 15-90 Search and Rescue in Butte adds that motorists should never leave the vehicle if stranded far from services.
Stay with your vehicle. Don’t think it’s only three miles to get cell service or it’s only five miles to town you can make it,” Gibson advised.
“Because this time of year with hypothermia and frostbite you’re much better off to take your chances to stay with your vehicle,” he added.
Experts also say that burning a candle in your vehicle can also generate enough heat to keep you warm if your car is broken down in the cold.
