Man reportedly armed with gun and hatchet shot by Bozeman Police

BOZEMAN – A man died after a Bozeman Police officer shot him early Friday morning while responding to an alleged assault call.

Bozeman Police Chief Steve Crawford said in a news release that officers responded to a call at a residence on Summer View Lane in Bozeman involving a reportedly intoxicated man who was assaulting his adult male roommate at approximately 11:44 p.m.

At approximately 12:07 a.m. the suspect, reportedly armed with a hatchet and a handgun, came toward officers when an officer shot the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no injuries to the officers. The incident remains under investigation by the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation, assisted by the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office.
