BUTTE – Carrie Fisher, who co-owns two restaurants in Uptown Butte with her husband, discovered that she’s not alone as a women business owner.
“(I) was really excited at this realization, that all these women were starting businesses for themselves and I wanted to celebrate them and how do I tell all these people that they’re awesome,” said Fisher.
To mark International Women’s Day, Fisher held a celebration Friday in Butte for women entrepreneurs as a way to network with other women business owners.
“What are you struggling with, what are you proud of and just really network and become a supportive building network for these local businesses,” said Fisher.
Butte has had a long history of women entrepreneurs – some have been in business for almost 40 years.
“I think that Butte women are extremely strong women and resilient,” she said.
Walk down any block in Uptown Butte and you’ll find many businesses owned by women — and this isn’t a surprise to some business owners.
“Women are not afraid to take a chance and we’re hard workers, you know, that’s what it takes. You have to have a lot of energy,” said Books and Books owner Jo Antonioli.
