WHITEHALL – The Golden Sunlight Mine near Whitehall may stop operations by May as its gold reserves continue to dwindle.
A news release issued Thursday by Barrick Gold Corporation announced the mine — which employs about 55 people — will cease new underground mining and only mine in limited existing areas.
Underground and surface exploration drilling will continue at the operation, with a focus on the southern extension of the Sunlight vein.
The company will make a final decision once it examines results from its exploratory mining.
