MISSOULA – Prayers of support are continuing to pour in for a Montana Highway Patrol officer who was shot in the line of duty.

Dozens of firefighters, police officers, military personnel and community members came out to show their support for the “Back the Blue” barbecue in Helena on Wednesday.

This year the event was held to support MHP Trooper Wade Palmer, who was shot three times while investigating a Missoula shooting nearly two weeks ago. He was taken to Salt Lake City where his condition remains critical.

Palmer has been with MHP since 2012, and in 2014, earned the patrol’s highest honor “the medal of valor”.

All money will help support Palmer’s family, a wife and two children, while he receives treatment.

“Yeah, and taking care of them, show the police department that we have their back, that our store is here to support and we will take care of whatever we can to help out,” said Helena Safeway assistant store manager Eric Dowell.
