BUTTE- The historic Copper King Hotel in Butte is hosting the Governor’s Conference on Tourism and Recreation this week.

The event runs until Tuesday with a goal of talking about the state’s tourism and recreation and compare the state’s numbers regionally and nationally.

The conference hopes to spark creative thinking and come up with solutions to bring more money into the state through tourism.

“Our whole goal when you are in tourism in the state is to either keep someone in your community one more hour,” Butte Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Maria Pochervina said.

“One more meal. One more night. And if you can’t keep them there, you want to keep them in the state of Montana. That is our whole goal,” she added.

Pochervina noted that this is the first time that Butte has played host to the conference.
