UPDATE: 3:30 p.m. - May 25, 2023
BOZEMAN - Dave’s Sushi tells MTN News they reopened today after receiving final approval from the health department.
The restaurant says it did not make a formal announcement of its reopening out of respect to all who were affected by what happened last month.
Dave's says it is completely confident in safely reopening for the 90+ staff members and community following the closure in April due to suspected foodborne illness that affected 50 people.
“We are grateful to be serving our community again. All those impacted by last month’s events will continue to remain in our hearts and will not be forgotten by our restaurant family here at Dave’s,” read a statement from Dave’s.
Dave’s also shared a statement released by the FDA on May 19, 2023, which reads:
“The toxins in morel mushrooms that may cause illness are not fully understood. Toxins found in these mushrooms occur naturally, by the fungi themselves, and there is no guarantee of safety even if cooking steps are taken prior to consumption. Illnesses have occurred after ingestion of fresh, raw mushrooms; dried mushrooms; stir-fried mushrooms; home canned mushrooms; mushrooms cooked in sauces; and mushrooms that were blanched and frozen at home.”
Dave’s says it hopes the information provided in the FDA’s statement provides a heightened level of awareness of the risk of eating morel mushrooms.
