BUTTE — The body of a man was found Tuesday morning near a Butte walking trail.
According to Butte-Silver Bow Sheriff Ed Lester, at approximately 8:45 a.m. Butte Police responded to the Blacktail Creek walking trail, near A Street, on the report of a possible body in Blacktail Creek.
A witness directed officers to a body in the creek that was believed to be that of an adult male. Police and members of search and rescue recovered the man's body around 11 a.m.
Sheriff Lester says the body will be sent to the Montana State Crime Lab in Missoula for an autopsy and identification.
According to the Sheriff, investigators did not observe any suspicious external injuries that would have caused the man’s death and he does not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.
The walking trail was closed for most of the morning. The identity of the man whose body was found has not been released at this time.
