The general hunting season kicked off on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, but some other hunters have already been out seeking game.
Pheasant hunting is very popular in Montana and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) is helping — especially the state's youngest hunters — bag a bird or two.
“Pheasant hunting season is also a very long season in Montana. It kicked off on October 12th, goes until January 1st. And in that span of time there's many times and places where people can find pheasants in Montana and Fish, Wildlife and Parks expanding those opportunities by stocking pheasants in many places around the state,” said FWP spokesman Morgan Jacobsen.
That includes along the Madison River near Greycliff. FWP has also made it easy to find out where else as well.
"If folks want to see places where those birds are getting stocked, they can go to our website at fwp.mt.gov that, of course, in addition to the wild birds that are already out here,” Jacobsen said. “So again, it’s a great opportunity for families to get out and enjoy some time in the field maybe with your favorite canine companion and being able to find birds in a place as beautiful as this.
FWP has released nearly 18,000 birds in Montana this year as part of the effort.
