September marks National Preparedness Month.

Wildfires in Montana and California have forced hundreds of people from their homes in recent weeks.

The Red Cross advises having a disaster evacuation plan so you can know what to bring with you if you are forced to leave.

Matt Ochsner with the American Red Cross of Montana says to make sure your family knows that plan, you practice that plan.

"Make sure your family knows that plan, you practice that plan. We also encourage you to build a kit, a first aid kit, that has things like extra medication that you might need if you have to leave your home for a long period of time," Ochsner advised. "A cellphone charger, important documents."
