Montana’s hunting regulations have a new look and the goal is to make them more user-friendly.

This spring, hunters will see a new look to the hunting regulations and while different, these new regulations should be simpler to use.

“We’ve heard for years that the regulations are too complicated and too complex, so the department decided to sit down and look at the regulations say what is too complex about them? What would make them easier to read, easier to use?” said Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks spokesman Bob Gibson.

One way to make the regulations more user-friendly is the redesign of the hunting districts.

“Those long lists of hunting districts and elk and deer permits and those kind of things — those are all put into a table now,” Gibson said. “So, it’s much cleaner, much nicer to read, much easier to figure out what it is that you are supposed to do when you are supposed to do it.”

FWP also reorganized information and created a better index so you can find something easier.

“We really beefed up the index and the table of contents, so it’s easy to find those things now. If you say, ‘I want to go and find out about hunter orange,’ now you can look that up and find it really easy,” Gibson said.

While there are other changes the hope is that hunters will find the new regulations more user-friendly.

“The current regulations don’t change how we hunt, they just change how you read about hunting,” Gibson explained.

The new regulations will be out in the first part of April
