HELENA — Republican Matt Rosendale was sworn in Sunday as Montana’s sole congressman, but wouldn’t say whether he plans to join U.S. House Republicans Wednesday who will challenge presidential voting results in certain states.

Rosendale, Montana’s former state auditor, won election Nov. 3 as Montana’s new and only U.S. House member, defeating Democrat Kathleen Williams. He is succeeding Republican Greg Gianforte, who became Montana’s 25th governor Monday.

In a statement, Rosendale said Sunday evening that he’s excited to get to work, “get the job done, and produce results.”

“In November, Montanans made clear that they want a representative in Washington who works hard, keeps their promises, and delivers solutions,” he said. “Along with the oath I took today, I promise to always represent the taxpayer’s needs and work to do something about them.”

Yet his congressional office ignored questions from MTN News about what he’ll do Wednesday when the House meets to approve the presidential electoral vote results, and confirm that Democrat Joe Biden won the presidential election over President Trump.

Some Republican U.S. House members and senators have said they will challenge the presidential voting results in some states. If the challenges are made, the House then votes whether to uphold that challenge – votes that will fail.

Rosendale hasn’t said whether he plans to challenge any results or support any challenges.
