Dozens attended a rally and parade in support of local law enforcement in Great Falls on Saturday, amid renewed national debate about the role of law enforcement in the U.S.
The day started out with a "Back the Blue" car and motorcycle rally at the parking lot of Mitchell Pool. It was followed by a rally in the Gibson Park bandshell at 1 p.m.
Attendees of both events were asked to wear face masks and practice social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
"Let's show the world how much Great Falls loves, supports and appreciates our awesome local law enforcement folks and their families," wrote Cascade County Commissioner Rick Tryon, who organized the event at Gibson Park,in a Facebook post.
Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter was joined by several deputies and a sergeant at the event. In a Facebook post, Slaughter said it was "a little overwhelming to have our citizens rally together for us."
"To be honest, law enforcement officers don't really know how to take all of the support," he wrote. "I just thank God every day that we are lucky to be here in Cascade County."
