CORVALLIS — Local school districts are reporting strong turnouts to their offers of free breakfasts and lunches, especially in communities like Corvallis, which started helping students last week.
Corvallis School District food staff -- along with select teachers and volunteers -- say the response has been growing each time they offer food that students would normally be receiving if their classes weren't canceled because of the coronavirus.
The district distributed more than 500 meals on Tuesdsay and students also got a surprise, when elementary teachers showed up with signs, displayed with social distancing of course, to send an encouraging message to their students.
The district is distributing meals every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. for any child under 18, who must be in the car at the time of pickup.
