High winds causing power outages in the Bitterroot

MISSOULA — High winds are causing power outages in the Bitterroot Valley.

NorthWestern Energy reports the winds are damaging trees and causing them to topple into power lines.

A tree fell into power lines in in Stevensville and downed lines sparked a fire along the Eastside Highway near Florence,

NorthWestern crews from Hamilton and Missoula are are working to restore service.

People who experience a power outage can report it online or by calling 888-467-2669.

A utility official added that “we appreciate customers’ patience as our crews work to safely restore service quickly.”

Ravalli County Electric Cooperative is reporting that the Florence substation is out of service and that 1,051 members are without power.

Additionally, multiple power lines have come down across the Bitterroot. Crews are out working to get the power turned back on.

Phones are being manned and public works crews are being dispatched as issues arise.
