CORVALLIS – This is a story that could only happen in Montana.
A bison, known to the Corvallis community as “Tonto the Buffalo”, escaped from his pen in the Bitterroot Valley on Thursday morning.
The owner lives a few blocks from Corvallis Elementary School.
Lea Morgan, who took the video, told us on Friday that Tonto escaped from his pen around 9:30 a.m. Thursday and strolled through the neighborhood at a leisurely pace.
At one point, the bison came up very close to the Morgan’s home. Several people called the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office to report Tonto on the loose.
The sheriff’s office called the owner, who was able to safely bring him back home.
We are told no tranquilizer darts or harnesses were needed to rope in the bison. He simply followed his owner back home.
No students or residents were injured.
