UPDATE: The Montana Department of Transportation is reporting at 5:32 p.m. Thursday that the westbound lanes on Interstate 90 are now open again after two separate avalanches closed the interstate on Wednesday.

ST. REGIS – Traffic continues to be an issue for anyone traveling west of Missoula.
Two different avalanches shut down Interstate 90 in the westbound lanes near St. Regis. That report came in just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday — closing all traffic going westbound.
A Montana Highway Patrol trooper told MTN News late Thursday morning that the highway may remain closed into Friday.
Drivers looking to continue heading west into Idaho can use Montana Highway 135 out of St. Regis which connects with Montana Highway 200 in Sanders County.
The Montana Department of Transportation reports the avalanche happened at mile marker 33.5 near St. Regis. There were no reports of injuries.
Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, a snow slide shut down the westbound lanes of I-90 one mile east of the Montana-Idaho border at Lookout Pass. The road is still closed.
