The Montana Invasive Species Council met in Helena on Wednesday to talk about the problem posed by wild pigs, or feral swine in Montana.
Officials from the Montana Department of Livestock warn that pigs can be an incredibly destructive predatory species with the ability to impact both rural and urban areas.
Feral swine have yet to be spotted in Montana, but pigs are encroaching from Canada and have been seen as close as five miles on the Saskatchewan side of the border.
Training state personnel and raising public awareness are currently top priorities as well as creating a coordinated response plan for swine sightings between agencies.
