Man killed in head-on crash near Ronan identified

POLSON — Authorities have released the name of the person who died in a Thursday evening crash in the Mission Valley.

Lake County Sheriff Don Bell says that 70-year-old Jack Howlett of Ronan died in the accident which happened on US Highway 93 south of Ronan.

Emergency crews responded to reports of a head-on crash involving a passenger car and a semi-truck at approximately 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 93 and Innovation Drive.

Howlett was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, according to Sheriff Bell.

The Montana Highway Patrol and Motor Carrier Services are continuing to investigate the crash.

Howlett’s body was taken to the State Crime Labe in Missoula for an autopsy. Sheriff Bell says the Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the death.

"We send our condolences to Mr. Howlett’s family,” Sheriff Bell said in a statement issued Friday.
