MISSOULA — The six Missoula City Council members elected to office in November were sworn in on Monday afternoon.
Among those sworn in by Missoula Mayor John Engen were Heidi West, Mirtha Becerra, and Gwen Jones, along with newly elected officials, Amber Sherrill, John Contos, and Sandra Vasecka.
The three new additions to the city council bring the composition of the council to nine progressives and three conservatives.
Newly elected Ward 4 Council member Amber Sherrill says she is looking forward to the challenges ahead and feels her critical analysis background on a number of issues will add to the skills that others bring. She adds she's quickly learned how issues tie together.
"One thing that I definitely recognize as I've been doing the campaigning, and as I've been doing more on-boarding is just how complex some of these issues are,” said Sherrill. “It's a snowball effect and how one thing affects another, and just how integrated everything is."
The first Missoula City Council meeting of 2020 will be held on Monday at 7 p.m.
