MISSOULA — Missoula’s Southgate Mall is offering up a unique opportunity during the COVID-19 pandemic for high school seniors to celebrate graduation with a Caps and Cars Grad Parade.

The mall is welcoming all high school seniors from western Montana as well as college graduates and their families to join their peers in a procession around the mall in an effort to bring recognition to their accomplishments.

Southgate Mall Marketing Director Lauren Poppen says the event provides a safe way to come together and have a little fun. It will include a painted backdrop featuring highlights of Missoula, and a chance to take part in a Nationwide “Decorate your Cap” contest with a $10,000 prize.

“We’re inviting people to decorate their cars, throw the whole family in, wear your cap and gown if you want to, but basically at 4 we’ll have our pilot car head out and lead everybody in a procession around the mall," Poppen said. "We imagine people will line up and cheer and you can crank up your music. It’ll just be a lot of fun.”

The Caps & Cars Grad Parade will take place from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on June 4 at the Southgate Mall in Missoula.
