POLSON — The Polson Bay Golf Course and Mission Valley Junior Golf Association worked together last February in hopes of building a new indoor learning center at the golf course.

A community-wide fundraising effort began in May and now, a year later those dreams are becoming a reality as construction has begun on the learning center that will feature two fully equipped all-sports simulators.

"They are not just golf, there's multi-sport on the simulators that includes soccer, basketball, hockey, lacrosse, football," said Polson Bay Golf Pro Cameron Milton. "So, you are not going to have to be a golfer to come and enjoy this new amenity."

The simulators will be free for kids, but adults will have to pay with those funds going directly back into the Mission Valley Junior Golf Association. While the money is already raised, the labor is being done on volunteer hours alone, whether it be from local companies or just helpful neighbors.

"It's really amazing for a town this size and the golf community and the community as a whole to really turn out and support this program," said Milton. "It will really solidify the Mission Valley Junior Golf Association for decades to come."

Regardless of how much money the simulators pull in, Milton says there's simply one goal for this project.

"It's just really important that we provide a safe environment outside where kids in the valley feel welcome," said Milton. "This is one of those capital projects that could provide opportunities for kids for years and years, long after I'm gone and everyone who put this together. It's really one of those projects where the reach will be an incredibly long time."

Milton says the golf course is aiming to open the simulators on May 1.
