FLORENCE – The Florence-Carlton School District has been alerted of as many as three Mountain Lions spotted near the school.
A photograph was taken near the bus stop turnaround on Tie Chute Lane by a parent waiting for the bus with their child earlier this week.
Tie Chute Lane intersects with Old Highway 93 less than 1/10-of-a-mile from the school. The Florence-Carlton School District quickly alerted parents and others in the community of the siting.
Elementary school principal Christine Hulla, says there should be a heightened awareness by parents and students.
“Anytime we get a report from parents that, you know whether it’s a bear or mountain lion or something, we use our resources to get the word out to parents just to be a little extra cautious with their kids,” Hulla said.
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials not that it is not uncommon to see mountains lions in the area this time of year.
FWP is passing along the same message — to be aware of surroundings, especially during the dark mornings when students are waiting for the bus.
